These three social media trends have the potential to change your company’s outreach strategy.

3 Social Media Trends for 2018

Most companies already understand the importance of using social media for outreach. However, many of those organizations have trouble understanding how rapidly these platforms change. Because of this, we have three social media trends that will show up frequently next year, plus recommendations as to how companies can use them.

Social Media Trends #1: A Rise in Advertising Cost

While organic reach still has value, paid ads will reign supreme in 2018. Keep in mind, social media platforms are companies themselves. Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms are trying to make money. Social Media Today reported that “spending on Facebook alone increased 74% year over year in 2017,” and the overall cost of digital ads has increased 12% from year to year. As a result, companies should consider increasing their budget for social media ads.

Social Media Trends #2: Instagram Stories

Instagram Stories is a feature that is similar to Snapchat and is only one year old, but it has become incredibly popular. According to Entrepreneur, over 200 million people use Instagram Stories each month, which is over 50 million more than those who use Snapchat. For companies looking to connect with customers on Instagram, mastering Instagram Stories can prove to be valuable.

Social Media Trends #3: More Videos

This social media trend has already started in 2017 and will continue through 2018. The Digital Marketing Institute reported, “Videos have been shown to elicit higher engagement, including more likes, retweets, comments and shares – especially on Facebook.” One way to leverage video in a new and interesting way is through live streaming video. The limited time of viewing a live video creates a sense of urgency. This makes users want to click on a company’s post immediately.
